Staying in touch with your family can be tough when your schedule is already full and now there is a pandemic to top it off. You may be keeping your distance to protect them or because you live across the country and traveling is risky at this time.

Here are some tips to help you stay in touch with your loved ones despite the obstacles:

This makes it feel more like a meeting and it allows you to plan around it instead of accidentally double booking or something coming up last minute causing a delay. It also makes sure that you are both available at that time and can devote your attention to each other.

Do you both of you have an iPhone? If yes, FaceTime. It is simple and easy to use.

Do both of you have an android phone? Use Google Meet

Have a big family? Use Zoom, it’s another free solution for groups.

  1. Share your screen. Show them the latest family photos, show them what is going on with extended family by clicking through Facebook updates. Show them their grandchild’s latest artwork or report card.
  2. Did your child learn a new song or dance at school? Show them!
  3. Share your screen and play a game of tic tac toe or create your own family game of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune.
  4. Have a list of questions planned for if there is an awkward silence.
  5. Order them a pizza or their favorite meal and have dinner together even though you are apart.
